על הספר

I wrote the book, in memory of my parents and my brother.

As described, they were people who, despite an enormous setback, namely the Holocaust,left their mark and are remembered till today, a long time after their passing.

The book is auto-biographical and I edited it myself, as I personally like the English language very much,as well as my own very personal writing-style.

כתבתי את הספר לזכר הורי ואחי. כמתואר בספר, הם היו אנשים שלמרות השפעת השואה על חייהם, הם הותירו את חותמם ונוכחים עד היום, זמן רב לאחר פטירתם. הספר הוא אוטו-ביוגרפי וערכתי אותו בעצמי, מכיוון שאני אישית מאוד אוהב את השפה האנגלית, וכן רציתי לשמר את סגנון הכתיבה האישי שלי.

I was born in London in 1946.

The family moved to Antwerp, Belgium in 1956.

My whole professional life, I was engaged as an independent diamond dealer.

I started learning Kase Ha Shotokan Karate for health reasons at the age of 38 and am now at 4th. Dan level.

I am still training.

I am married, with one daughter.

I have acted in amateur theatre and appeared in "The Weakest Link".

נולדתי בלונדון, אנגליה, בשנת 1946.משפחתי עברה לאנטוורפן, בלגיה, בשנת 1956. כל חיי המקצועיים עסקתי כסוחר יהלומים עצמאי. מסיבות בריאותיות התחלתי בגיל 38 ללמוד "קאזה הא שוטוקאן" קראטה והיום (2021) דרגתי היא דאן-4. אני עדיין מתאמן.
אני נשוי ואב לבת. שיחקתי בתיאטרון חובבים והופעתי ב"החוליה החלשה ביותר ".

Thirty years ago at Vidal Bibas Sensei`s Dojo, I was sparring with a sixteen-year old boy named Eyal Toledano.

Vidal had instructed us to spar at very slow speed, to work on our technique. Unfortunately Eyal, now a career-Army

officer, demonstrated the typically Israeli vice of impatience. He suddenly did a very fast technique a "Reverse roundhouse kick",

better known as "Ura Mawashi", whereby his right heel made solid contact with my right temple. An inch higher and I wouldn`t be here, putting pen to paper now.

The result, after the crack I heard, was a zygomatic fracture. I fell to the ground,but then got up, as if to go on sparring.

Luckily Vidal Sensei had seen what had happened and stopped our little sparring-session.

I went to Laniado Hospital, where I was informed at that time, that if I wasn`t delivering a baby, it was the wrong place to be. They told me to go home, crush a Veganine pain-killer into a glass of water,drink it although I could hardly open my mouth and register next morning at "Tel Ha`Shomer" hospital, near where Avrohom lived. It had a very good Maxillo -Facial department. They told me to go home, I was seen by a chap called Dr. Yahalom who asked: "We`ll try something. Can you take a little pain?" I answered in the affirmative.

He gave me two injections near my right temple and told me to lie on my left side. He then pushed downwards on my temple and inserted a kind of hook which he stabbed into the skin and with a smart twitch set the Zygomatic bone back into its semi-circular position.

I didn`t feel pain, but as if he was crushing my head for an instant. Then all was fine. He taped a small cardboard box to my face and off I went

to pay my respects to my brother, who promptly fainted upon opening the door to their flat, when seeing what I considered to be a funny-looking me.

לפני כשלושים שנה, התאמנתי בדוג'ו של וידאל ביבס סנסאי עם אייל טולדנו שהיה בן זוגי לאימונים, נער כבן שש עשרה. ההוראה מהסנסאי הייתה לעבוד על הטכניקה לאט. לרוע המזל, אייל, שהוא כיום קצין בצה"ל, הפגין את חוסר הסבלנות הישראלי הידוע. אייל ביצע טכניקה מהירה, בעיטה אחורית-סיבובית הנקראת ביפנית "אורה-מאוושי-גרי". עקבו הימני פגע בעוצמה ברקתי הימנית. מספר סנטימטרים מעל ולא הייתי כותב את מילותי כאן. התוצאה, אחרי קול שבירה ששמעתי היטב, נשברה לי עצם הלחי. מעוצמת הבעיטה נפלתי אך קמתי בכדי להמשיך את אימון הזוגות. למזלי וידאל סנסאי הבחין בנעשה ועצר את אימון הזוגות. נסעתי לבית החולים לניאדו, שם נאמר לי שאם אני לא עומד ללדת זה לא המקום להיות בו. שחררו אותי לביתי לאחר שאמרו לי לשתות וגנין בכוס מים, גם אם כמעט לא יכול הייתי לפתוח את פי. למחרת ניגשתי לבית החולים "תל השומר", קרוב לביתו של אברום, ב"תל השומר" הייתה מחלקת כירורגיה פה ולסת מעולה. טופלתי על ידי ד"ר יהלום שאמר לי לי "ננסה משהו" ושאל אותי "אתה יכול לעמוד בכאב קטן?" עניתי בחיוב. הרופא הזריק לי שתי זריקות ליד רקתי הימנית והורה לי לשכב על צידי השמאלי. הוא דחף כלפי מטה את רקתי והחדיר מעין וו מעוקל לעורי ובתנועה מיומנת החזיר את עצם הלחי למקומה, לא חשתי בכאב, להוציא מעין תחושה שראשי נמחץ. וברגע זה הכל הסתיים. הרופא הדביק לפני מעין קופסא קטנה מקרטון ומיד פניתי לחלוק כבוד לאחי שהתעלף כאשר ראה את מה שאני חשבתי שהוא מראה מצחיק של פני....
